Purgatoire Riverwalk

Purgatoire River
The Purgatoire River travels right through the heart of Trinidad, Colorado. I invite you to take a walk with me through photographs along the banks of this historic river.

Trinidad began as a trading hub on the Santa Fe Trail. Weary travelers would stop for rest before making the journey over Raton Pass. Later, the railroad and coal industry kept this little town alive.

Times have surely changed, but the amazing beauty along the river is still something to behold today.

Sun shining through the cottonwood branches

Large cottonwoods grace the landscape along the river. The cottonwoods were most certainly a welcome sight to early travelers as they not only provided shade and shelter, they also like to grow near water.

Big Tree Hug :)

For me, the cottonwoods are wise and ancient. There's nothing better than a great big cottonwood tree hug :)

Building a nest high above

They also provide a place to call home for our feathered friends.

Beautiful flowers are everywhere along the walking path.

Butterflies can be found peeking through the foilage if you look closely.

Other small treasures may catch your eye if you look close enough as you walk...here I found a robins egg shell.

And how cool is it
to see the local art along
the river...

Reminders of days gone by can also be found along the river.

Beauty In Nature

There is nothing more beautiful to me than the awesomeness of nature. Whether I'm sitting in my front yard enjoying the delightful flowers or hiking along my favorite trails, something wonderful always catches my eye and awakens my soul.

This pretty peony is shining with all her glory in the afternoon sun.

Art in nature is something spectacular to observe.
I see a perfect little fairy bench :)

Ah, the amazing rose garden. The roses growing around my house are such a sweet blessing. I love seeing their delicate petals dancing softly in the wind as they wave to all who would admire their bearty.

These two seem to have some kind of friendship, makes me wonder....

Absolutely breathtaking views to be witnessed all around me. What an amazing planet we walk upon. Mother Earth is my greatest inspiration.

As an artist and creator, I am inspired by the beauty of nature. Please check out the wonderful creations my husband, Crowwolf, and I have on our shop.

Southern Colorado Wild Flowers

It is such a treat to hike the trails of southern Colorado this time of year. Spring has awoken the land, the bees are buzzing and the flowers are blooming.

Here is a sampling of the beauty we find in the hills near Trinidad, Colorado:

I found these lovely cactus flowers nestled under a pine tree. The bright orange caught my eye from the trail and I had to take a peek. They seem so safe and protected inside the circle of the pine branches, yet they still reach out and say hello to the sun without any hesitation.

Claret Cup Cactus Flowers

This beautiful yellow flower adorns the prickly pear cactus. The bees were swimming in the sweet polllen.

This beauty was growing along the trail and seemed so happy to smile for the camera. Her yellow petals remind me of the warm golden sun.

 Perky Sue Flower

Of course I would find great beauty in a flower named the Fairy Trumpet. Vibrant and joyful, what an amazing vision!

There are so many wonderful things to see on our Colorado trails, I am so blessed to live in such a beautiful place!

River Walk Finds

I love walking out along the river, looking at the wonderful rocks and listening to the soft sounds of the water dancing gently along the way. It's so peaceful and healing.

I have loved rocks ever since I can remember and have often found myself coming home with my pockets full of many great stone trinkets. I always tell my family that they jumped in there and begged me to bring them home. Needless to say, we have rocks on every shelf in our home.

We have found some great rock discoveries in our recent journeys along the river, some of these rocks look like they have been tooled and used in past times.

Some of these stones have wonderful shapes that speak to my 'heart' ;)

Some of these stones have a very ancient story to tell...(plant fossils)

And some of the rocks smoothed by the river water we are gifted make their way into our garden :)

Moccasin Love

I love to walk along the cobblestone streets of our bueautiful little town in my handmade moccasins. It is one of the greatest joys to feel those old red bricks under my feet, my toes curling around the smooth brick corners as my buffalo hide soles allow for natural flexibility. Another great joy is the wonderful feel of the Earth as I hike the trails of Colorado in my mocs. My feet feel so alive, awakening something incredibly healing in my heart. My feet are allowed to feel the joy of the warm Earth, my toes able to grip the ground and keep me better balanced. The buttery soft elk hide uppers feel like a comforting hug. It makes my heart sing and my spirit soar!
Rubber soles and other manmade materials disconnect us from the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Man has forgotten our connection with Her, that our heartbeat matches Hers. Like an infant comforted and safe, close to his or her mother's heartbeat, we too need to feel the heartbeat of our Earth Mother. The natural, buffalo hide soles on traditional moccasins help keep ones feet grounded to the Earth which allows us to stay connected to her healing heartbeat.
